Stephen McWilliams is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Saint John of God Hospital, Dublin, and Associate Clinical Professor at the School of Medicine and Medical Sciences, University College Dublin.  He is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (MB, BCh, BAO, LRCPSI), a member of the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland (MCPsychI) and a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London (FRCPsych).  He holds a master’s degree in medical education (MMEd) and a research doctorate of medicine (MD).

Stephen is Medical Editor of Hospital Doctor of Ireland and has authored over 250 articles in periodicals that include the Irish Times, theJournal.ie, the Irish Medical Times, the Irish Medical News, the Medical Independent, Medicine Weekly, the Irish Psychiatrist, Scope and others.  He is the author of four books.  He also contributed Forewords to The Book of Weather Eye and Weather Eye: The Final Year by his father, the late Brendan McWilliams (Gill and Macmillan; ISBNs 978-0-7171-4581-2 and 978-0-7171-4608-6). 

From a more academic perspective, Stephen co-authored a chapter on psychiatric pharmacology in the Handbook of Adult Clinical Psychology edited by Alan Carr and Muireann McNulty (Routledge; ISBN-1-138-80630-6).  He has published dozens of peer-reviewed research papers in academic journals such as Schizophrenia ResearchEuropean Psychiatry, the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, the International Journal of Biometeorology, Early Intervention in Psychiatry and others.  He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Irish Journal of Psychological Medicine.
